Great omelette choices and a nice extensive brunch menu! I've been there a few times and what I like about Nellies is that it's a cozy, friendly place to just have a good meal. The dishes and glasses are old and they could use a fresh set. The servers keep interrupting and trying to hurry you up. But if you don't let them bother you, it's a place that makes you feel content with a warm belly.

The decor is electric and kitschy and provides many conversation pieces. It didn't appear especially clean, the decor and everything that is, it seemed understandably dusty as there are an abundance of trinkets to dust. All the tables and seating areas appeared clean enough for dining purposes. There is an upstairs and a downstairs seating area. Going up the stairs I noticed a large collection of toys/activities for children which also didn't seem especially clean, but nonetheless a cute idea and nothing that a quick bout of hand hygiene pre dining couldn't remedy.
The menu has a good selection of breakfast options. My only complaint is that I asked specifically for soft poached eggs for the Nelly's scramble and I was served eggs that were hard to the point of crumbling. When I brought this to the attention of the server explaining that I definitely wanted soft poached eggs and I sliced them to demonstrate their crumbling texture she just looked at me and said "soft poached?" As if I had asked a question. There was no question - the eggs were a crumbly disaster. She did take the plate away with promise to talk to the chef. A different server came back with a fresh plate and kindly apologized about the egg situation. She was super nice and the eggs were perfect and she stood watching to ensure that they were. Overall the food was good and the egg thing was probably an honest mistake and not a deal breaker as to whether or not I'd go there again... but probably enough of a deal breaker that I wouldn't suggest going there again as Calgary as so many other brunch places that I don't have a nEGGative experience with (overall it wasn't actually that negative of an experience but I couldn't think of a better word to turn into a pun)

Thinking of the funky Sophie's Cosmic Cafe in Kitsilano, Vancouver, I stopped in here to check it out, but the vibe was very different from the start.
After having eaten breakfast several times at Purple Perk, Dairy Lane, OEB, Red's and Galaxie diners here in the city, I ordered the bacon and egg breakfast, but from the get-go it smacked more of a truck-stop than a place run by pleasant flower children and aging hipsters who add flavour to the exterior muralling and interior decor.
This Nellie's breakfast was average decent, but the coffee was stale low-end swill, and the price was more than I wanted to pay for what I got. With such stiff competition nearby who do the job much better, I won't be going back.

If anyone out there wants redneck-oriented bacon and eggs or hotcakes, may suit you. But there's no room for an 18-wheeler anywhere.

It's a place that opens up at 7 am. So, if you need a place for your breakfast meeting early in the morning, this one is certainly a great choice. Lots of options with eggs on the menu. I chose the one with Avocados and Tomatoes and loved it. The ambience is pretty good and there is a lot of parking space. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. Overall, a great option for breakfast.

Not the friendliest service and had to ask for coffee refills and ketchup for my meal. Breakfast was pretty good, but nothing special. We had the ham eggs benny and the tostada. Would have been satisfied with the meal had the service been improved. Nonetheless, we probably won't be coming back anytime soon.
